no. Astigmatism is created by a cornea or a lens that smudges or blurrs the image in one direction only. Nystagmus is where the eye pulsates back and forth in a manner that cannot be consciously controlled or at least we can say where the person has not yet learnt how to control that movement. Supposedly there is a condition called congenital nystagmus, meaning it orginated in the womb. But who is to say that such difficulties are not compounded by events around the time of our birth?
