The World Trade Organisation's Doha round of trade talks is coming to a head and the future of the world's poor hangs in the balance. But what is the WTO, and how did it get to be so powerful? War on Want's short film exposes the truth behind the WTO and its damaging 'free trade' policies This film was made possible through funding from the Cooperative Bank's Customers Who Care scheme. Thanks also to the following for providing images, music and other input: Charles Battrick, Ben Nugent, Chris Franck, Suicide Speedboats and the Norwegian Development Fund.

You must be joking... "Developing countries have benefited greatly from trade liberalization"? Then why did 'developing countries' WALK OUT o talks with the WTO when they realized they were being all but ignored by the orginazation? Get yer facts straight.

this video has various false statements, get well informed. i know the WTO is not all good but it´s a lot more than what it´s defined here.

Hey, the world trade organization is not all bad. There have been many rulings against developed countries. Developing countries have benefited greatly from trade liberalization. Don't get confused between IMF structural adjustment programs and the WTO. If you look critically at some of the literature on the WTO you will see that it is not a perfect organization but it is not how perceived in the media. Recently it has even taken a lead on environmental issues.

Mark my words... WWIII will not be so much a war as it will be a global revolution against the tyrant neocolonialists. There won't be any armies or boundaries to invade or reclaim, there will be corporate corporate "security agencies" vs. Militias, Guerrillas, and Vigilantes composed by the people fighting for justice. It will not be one war, it will be MANY wars all happening simultaneously in many nations. Neoliberalism vs. Everyone Else

phonedial9: ha ha.. The strong thrive only to the point where the weak decide. The people are not saying "NO MORE." Survial of the fittest you say... Corporations are only handfulls of decrepit subhuman blood suckers manipulating the masses, they coerse billions of people by the economic whip. Ever hear the term "Unity is Strenght?" What will happen when those billions of "weak" people unite under the banner of Justice? Survival of the fittest eh? Think you can take us all on?

Just to sum it up: WTO = free trade = global growth = better human and environmental conditions The Millenium round in Seattle did not "collapse", which was the narrator's term - the conference was simply derailed and the same talk was later brought up on the Doha round in 2001.

Screw the weak. Survival of the fittest!
