having a lot of money can insulate you from reality and provide you with a nice lifstyle. having to little means you often get hammer'd and your boss is not likely to give you a pay raise.

I think because when this song was produced consumerism was the buzz word so it hit a real point with poiniant lyrics thats why I believe it is so famous hellsassasin

normally i would go crazy at this sort of comment, but u put it in a really unbiased way so im not gonna lose my head, i really enjoy this song, i must admit the instrumental in the middle is really boring but everything else in it (i think) is really gd. especially the little talking parts at the end under "away"

well, it was quite innovative at the time it was made. Bands didn't usually use seperatly recorded sounds as rythms, and neither did they use 7/4 beat, or switch so rapidly into 4/4 for the guitar solo. The guitar solo is pretty awesome as well. And it's a good mix of rapid and calm music. The text is meaningful as well, something the 68-ers liked, and progressive music was "in" at the time. Hope that answered your question ;)

I'm sorry, but why is this song so famous? It's really not that good (in my opinion at least). Don't get me wrong, I'm a huge Pink Floyd fan, but I've never liked this song.
