Innovate or Die - Aquaduct: Mobile Filtration Vehicle

The Aquaduct is pedal powered vehicle that transports, filters, and stores water for the developing world. A peristaltic pump attached to the pedal crank draws water from a large tank, through a filter, to a smaller clean tank. The clean tank is removable and closed for contamination-free home storage and use. A clutch engages and disengages the drive belt from the pedal crank, enabling the rider to filter the water while traveling or while stationary. The Aquaduct is the winning entry in the Innovate or Die contest put on by Google and Specialized. The contest challenge was to build a pedal powered machine that has environmental impact. most water is usually far from where they live, and if you bike a trike, on bad road and having it weigh alot, your gonna have a problem

Good idea but not practical. what citizen in a third world country can afford one of these bikes? I get that you expect somone else to provide the services of the bike to the people of 3rd world count's, yet, there are much, MUCH more practical, quicker, and more efficient ways to provide clean water. You are simply trying to globalize them even more. They don't need to care about the environment when they have enough trouble surviving themselves. It is us, who over consume, that need worry.

More people will die faster from transmitted diseases thanks to pedal power.Impractical. NOT environmentally sound.A cruel hoax. Viruses for everyone. No possible way to maintain this illconcieved, flimsy contraption.

elkavernikola, you must be the idiot or have ADD because they stated why boiling water en masse hurts the environment (deforestation-wood burning). And using natural gas is another natural resource waster.
